About Us
Welcome to Yarilla Alpacas. Julie and Mike Conroy of Yarilla Alpacas run over 45 alpacas in the beautiful area of Paechtown, South Australia. Paechtown is just 3km drive from the picturesque town of Hahndorf, a very popular area with local and international tourists, and only 35 mins from the Adelaide CBD.
Beautiful gums are in abundance on the property and lush pastures make it the ideal setting for alpacas to graze. We have small holding, observation maternity areas and a sufficient number of larger paddocks. We practice rotational grazing so some paddocks can be rested. Paddocks are connected by a series of raceways for easy movement of stock. Our infrastructure is continually being reviewed and developed and we are currently working with the Mt Lofty Natural Resources Board to carry out best land practices. Our herd management program is supported by our purpose built facilities. We are fortunate to have a highly experienced and well regarded alpaca vet less then 1.5km away. Both Julie and Mike are passionate about their animals and enjoy sharing their knowledge on husbandry, fibre and breeding and would be pleased to help others get into the industry. Yarilla Alpacas started with 2 pregnant female huacaya's in 2008. We found that due to the ease of looking after alpacas and our love for them, our numbers soon grew. 2012 also saw us purchase our first suri alpaca. Our first Suri Cria was born April 2013. Total number of animals is currently 46 including our recently acquired stud male suri Mundawora Cochise. 2010 saw us attend out first Alpaca show, for which we received a broad ribbon for Best New Exhibitor at the Colour Classic. One of our daughters Elouise who is currently 11 years old, also has a passion for alpacas. She has taken out Colour Classic Supreme Junior Handler 6-11 years, Strathalbyn Agricultural Society Best Junior Handler, broad ribbon. Elouise won the overall junior alpaca handler in 2011 for her age group. She took out a full 40 out of 40 points accumulated over 4 South Australian shows. In 2012 she also won overall junior alpaca handler in the 11-15 year age group. She has also won Colour Classic Supreme junior photography broad ribbon , Colour Classic Supreme 5-10 years free art broad Ribbon ,and Colour Classic Supreme photography Junior section broad ribbon. She is very proud of her numerous ribbons and trophies. Alpacas have become a unique family affair. Each animal has an individual personality and they are not treated as just a number. Yarilla Alpacas is a current member of the Australian Alpaca Association and the South Australian Alpaca Association. All our animals are registered with the Australian Alpaca Association. Our breeding program provides unparalleled support and service and places emphasis on fine fleece, good temperaments and conformation.
